New Year's Resolutions: Frazer

New Year's resolutions have always been a fairly underwhelming concept for me. Only recently have I indulged in this concept. I always figured, “what’s the point? Odds are I'll break it anyways.”
When I did start making New Year's resolutions, I only made ones I knew I could keep. Last year, for example, I resolved to start ordering normal lattes instead of flavored ones. Sure, I've been able to stick to it, but how hard is that? If I keep taking baby steps like that, I might be able to kick my coffee habit by the time I'm 35.
This year, however, I'm going for broke. My New Year's resolution is simple and in two parts. It goes like this:
- Exercise more
- Eat healthier
Now, I know what all of you are thinking. Going from my previous endeavors to this one is a bit like going from riding with training wheels and going straight to the X Games. In fact, both of those resolutions are on Time Magazine's “Top 10 Commonly Broken New Year's Resolutions” list (at positions one and four, respectively).
However, as a resolution realist: I have a plan, and just like my resolution, it has two parts.
Let's start with resolution part one: exercise more. Now, if you've read some of my other blogs, you know that I hate the gym. I also hate jogging. This leaves me with very few other options in the exercise department. Or does it?
You see, I like to feel like I'm doing something when I'm exercising. That's why I have decided to join a climbing gym. Not only is rock climbing fantastic exercise, but also it's an activity that I can actually look forward to doing.
As for eating healthier, that part is easy. Right now, I eat like crap. I go out for lunch pretty much every day, which can be disastrous for your health. My goal for 2012 is to pack my own lunch at least three times per week.
Sure, it's a small change. They both are, really, but I already warned you that I only make resolutions I know I can keep. Plus, even small changes like this can add up to some pretty big results.
So wish me luck, and happy 2012!
